Day 8 - Problem Solving!

The time is flying by and we are making good progress with our running. We are slowly getting into a regular routine and I will write more about that this evening. I just wanted find the time to send some heartfelt thankyou’s from all of the team to the people who have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to help us with our challenge.

The last week has been a bit of a learning curve for us in terms of sending things from the UK to the US! Our run is being powered by www.maxifuel.com and they had sent us a big shipment of product to New York. This sadly got stuck in customs and we had to leave without our much-needed energy supplies. Fortunately the wonderful Yaniv Risman from Sea and Air International www.sea-air.net stepped in to help us out and 19 boxes of product were duly delivered to the Semper Fi offices in Quantico yesterday. This was all helped along by Serena at Maxifuel, Helen and Wing at EFM Management. Maxifuel gives us the energy to keep going when we are running but also helps our muscles repair and recover. We have been using the products during our training and them we probably could not have completed the run - so one crisis averted!

Yaniv then stepped in to help us out with another shipment of important kit that also got stuck at Customs. He worked his magic and this is no winging its way to us by the power of fedEx. The team at The British Consulate in New York and Angie McCray at Semper Fi helped with this also.

Last of the thank you’s for today goes to the team at The British Embassy in Washington including Colonel Nigel Brown and Melanie Hinton. The reception you laid on for us this week was wonderful. I can’t tell you how much it boosts our spirits to see people out in the streets supporting what we are doing. The clapping, cheering and smiling faces gives us just what we need to keep running.

We have also experienced technical difficulties in terms of sending back our video content and images. Claire spent most of yesterday cursing the computer and trying to send back content to our PR team in the UK. So for those of you anxious for video and photo updates, bear with us while we iron out our technical hitches and for those of you who are techincally minded - all bright ideas are welcome!

I will sign off this blog by asking anyone reading it to spread the word for us. The miles are decreasing but we now need the fundraising to start increasing - espcially in the US. Please tell everyone you know about what we are doing but also if you live on our route please tell you friends and come out and see us run by. 3,530 miles is a daunting prospect and there are days when it seems overwhelming but every time we run through a town and there are people out on the streets, we are truly inspired and believe that we can raise £1million.

Help us do that and text GUMP to donate…
